Time Management + Procrastination

  • HOW DO YOU STAY FOCUSED?

    • I am an EXPERT at getting distracted. For me, staying focused takes some effort. I need caffeine, and not in small amounts. For me to truly be focused and get things done, I have to drink 2-3 large cups of coffee. Without that, I am left feeling drained with a headache and no desire to get off the couch. But, I also stay focused under pressure, and in a mess. When I know a deadline is approaching, I work my *donkey* off to get it done- which is so much more thrilling and effective than being organized. Pshh.

  • HOW DO YOU WASTE TIME?

    • I get on TikTok, or I decide that the show I’m watching on Netflix or Hulu is MUCH more important than my homework. I sometimes even think about things like what my next hair color would be, or an outfit I am envisioning for a photoshoot, or even a song I want to cover and how I could make visuals for it. I also get curious about trivial things, like why there is no understanding of why humans have hiccups.

  • WHAT DISTRACTS YOU?

    • Really, just my thoughts. I’m scatterbrained, so my mind doesn’t follow one straight path. There are bridges, forks in the road, and even cliffs. I sometimes have to bounce between numerous ideas (often completely unrelated to what I’m doing) just to create a solution for the problem at hand. I’m literally all over the place. My mind is constantly wandering from what I’m supposed to be doing, especially when I know I have more than one thing to be working on. It’s like changing the subject from a topic you want to avoid.

    • If you’re curious, this article makes perfect sense of what I mean. https://www.elitedaily.com/life/scatterbrained-more-intelligent/1238986

  • WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL WORK ENVIRONMENT?

    • I like to be alone, and in quiet, but with my own music playing. If I’m in a group of people that are talking, I never get anything done. I enjoy working at home, in a small desk space in my closet with my music and color-changing light. It’s secluded, and facing a wall, so there’s not much to get distracted by and it really helps me get into my working headspace.

  • WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER FOR TIME MANAGEMENT AND COPING WITH PROCRASTINATION?

    • Plan ahead. Make a schedule. Those are the biggest things, but I’m not good at keeping up with them. If you can figure out a way to make a schedule of what needs to get done chronologically with deadlines, then you’ll be straight.
